Home Safe Every Day
To us, creating a safe place to work doesn’t just mean that we reduce the number of accidents we have at work, it is so much more. It’s about education, awareness and creating a comfortable place where our people can thrive and do their best work, embedding our Home Safe Every Day mentality.
In October 2024 we were recognised by MAKE UK Regional Awards for the North East, Yorkshire, and Humberside, where we were nominated in two categories: Health, Safety and Wellbeing and Innovation. Winning the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Award and came runner-up in the Innovation category. Our success in both categories shows that our commitment to health and safety, as well as to continuous innovation, is being recognised far and wide.

I have worked at Dyer since leaving school. I was a successful apprentice in fabrication& welding. I have then been working my way up the ladder, as they say, from Team Leader of the fab/weld department to Annfield Plain Site Supervisor, then to Harelaw Site Supervisor, and finally to Site Operations Lead. I have been here 19 years. My favorite part of my job is seeing the progression of people, from TL (Team Leader) progression and shop floor progression, from non-skilled to becoming very talented individuals/employees. I have been given brilliant opportunities through the years to progress through the business, with various aspects of training including internal and external coaching. I love the flexibility in hours to support kid's school start and after-school activities this has been very helpful in my personal life.

I am currently the Operations Lead for the JobShop division but have worked in various engineering roles throughout the business since I started as a 21-year-old Mechanical Engineering graduate in 2013. Following a 2-year stint working for another manufacturer in Scotland from 2020 I returned to Dyer Engineering in 2022 when I realised that my current job was not as enjoyable or as fulfilling as my role at Dyer had been – and I certainly do not regret returning. I thoroughly enjoy my role, being part of a brilliant team, and working for a thriving business that cares for its employees. I have always felt supported and been given opportunities to develop my knowledge and skills, most notably day release for a degree-apprenticeship in Business Leadership and Management. I am excited about the future and my role in helping the business to succeed and continue it’s growth.
