Warehouse Manager – 6–8 Month Contract

Location: Darlington
Contract: 6–8 Months
Salary: DOE

The Company

We are recruiting on behalf of an established business with a busy distribution operation in Darlington.

Following recent changes within the operation, the business is looking to appoint an experienced Warehouse Manager on an initial 6–8 month basis to take ownership of the day-to-day warehouse function.

This is a hands-on management position and would suit someone who enjoys walking into an operation, identifying opportunities for improvement and putting the structure in place to make things run more effectively.

The Role

Reporting into senior operational leadership, the Warehouse Manager will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the warehouse and a small team of Warehouse Operatives.

A major focus of the position will be improving operational flow, organisation, stock accuracy and general warehouse standards.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Taking day-to-day ownership of warehouse operations.
  • Leading, supporting and organising a team of approximately five Warehouse Operatives.
  • Managing goods-in, goods-out and dispatch activities.
  • Ensuring customer orders are processed and dispatched accurately and efficiently.
  • Improving the flow of products through the warehouse.
  • Maintaining accurate inventory and stock counts.
  • Improving warehouse organisation, housekeeping and working practices.
  • Identifying operational bottlenecks and implementing practical improvements.
  • Monitoring workloads and ensuring resources are deployed effectively.
  • Maintaining appropriate health, safety and operational standards.
  • Introducing greater structure and accountability across the operation.
  • Working closely with senior management to identify and deliver further improvements.

The Person

We're looking for an experienced warehouse professional who is comfortable taking ownership of an operation and making improvements quickly.

You'll ideally have:

  • Previous experience as a Warehouse Manager, Warehouse Operations Manager or experienced Warehouse Supervisor.
  • Experience leading a warehouse or distribution team.
  • Strong goods-in, goods-out and dispatch knowledge.
  • Good understanding of inventory management and stock accuracy.
  • Experience within an e-commerce, parcel fulfilment, distribution or fast-moving warehouse environment would be particularly beneficial.
  • A hands-on leadership style.
  • Experience improving warehouse processes and operational standards.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • The confidence to identify issues and implement solutions without requiring significant supervision.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced warehouse professional who is available for an initial 6–8 month assignment and wants the autonomy to make a tangible impact within a busy operation.
