Purpose of Role:

  • Assist the Engineering Department in mechanical overhaul, repair, renewal, or modification of vessel equipment & systems.
  • Time served engineers will handle the technical aspects of overhaul, repair, renewal, or modification of vessel mechanical equipment & systems.

 

Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ):

  • Maintain high standards of HSEQ to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 requirements.
  • Familiarize and apply site HSEQ documentation, systems, and procedures.
  • Promote safe working practices, environmental care, and quality requirements.
  • Provide adequate information, instruction, and supervision to prevent risks to health and safety.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping.
  • Use and maintain work equipment, premises, and protective clothing as required.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Removal and replacement of thrusters (tunnel and azimuth) and their blades.
  • Removal and replacement of rudders, propeller blades, and propeller hubs.
  • Rigging and lifting of tail shafts for withdrawal and replacement.
  • Removal and reinstallation of pumps, pipes, valves, compressors, generators, coolers, filter systems, and other mechanical items.
  • Removal and reinstallation of heavy mechanical items such as bow/stern doors, ramps, winches, etc.
  • Transporting items through the vessel using lifting equipment.
  • Assisting in the overhaul, repair, renewal, or modification of main engines, generators, compressors, and other engineering equipment.

Additional Duties:

  • Removal and replacement of floor plates in machinery spaces for access requirements.
  • Transporting items to and from the vessel and engineering workshop using a forklift truck.
  • Cleaning work areas during and after work.
  • Cleaning mechanical items for inspection or repair.

Key Competencies, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • Slinging
  • Forklift driving (not required for all Fitters)
  • Mobile Elevating Work Platform (not required for all Fitters)
  • Manual Handling
